Sericyne is proud to have been participating for over a year in the European ARACNE project (Advocating the Role of Silk Art and Cultural Heritage at National and European Scale), a large-scale initiative funded under Horizon Europe. This strategic project aims to rebuild the European silk ecosystem by enhancing its cultural, artistic, and industrial heritage, while fostering innovation around this emblematic natural fiber.
Launched in January 2024, the project will run until December 2026, bringing together 13 partners from 8 European countries (France, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, …). Sericyne embodies French excellence in innovative silk and sustainable new materials.
Reinventing the European Silk Industry
ARACNE aims to:
– Showcase European initiatives related to silk and foster synergies among stakeholders in this field,
– Create a European Silk Cultural Route, linked to historical sericulture regions,
– Connect museums, artisans, designers, and researchers around European silk.
Sericyne at the Heart of Sericultural Innovation
As an expert in natural and innovative silk, Sericyne is actively involved in several strategic areas of the project:
– Textile Innovation & Design: developing new shapes and applications with natural silk for design and creation,
– Sustainable Business Models: exploring circular development approaches for the silk sector,
– Cultural Heritage & Silk Road: contributing to the historical and geographical revalorization of French sericulture, particularly in the Cévennes.
Active Collaboration with the University of Maribor in Slovenia
Within the ARACNE project, Sericyne has hosted two delegations from the University of Maribor (Slovenia):
– The first group comprised researchers specialized in silk materials and proteins, with whom we are developing innovation projects to valorize by-products of our sector by creating new high-value-added materials.
– The second included plant biology experts, particularly on ancient mulberry varieties, the central tree of sericulture. This collaboration supports the reconstitution of Europe’s genetic diversity of mulberries.
We also work with design students from the University of Maribor on innovative silk lighting projects, blending craftsmanship, sustainability, and new technologies.
Finally, Sericyne collaborates with the Italian company D’orica, renowned for its expertise in sustainable textile jewelry, to explore new synergies between silk and European artisanal crafts.
